Appearance and growth habit
Begonia Amphioxus is a distinctive, compact foliage Begonia with narrow, pointed green leaves covered in dark spots and often edged with reddish tones. Its unusual leaf shape and bold markings make it a real standout in a Begonia collection. It prefers warm, humid conditions and grows as a small, bushy plant, making the 7cm size ideal for smaller spaces, cabinets or terrariums.
Care requirements
Give Begonia Amphioxus bright, indirect light and keep it warm, ideally around 18–28°C. It enjoys high humidity and should be watered when the growing medium begins to dry slightly. Use a light, airy and well-draining mix, as its delicate roots do not appreciate staying soggy. Good airflow is important, particularly in humid environments.
Troubleshooting
Brown or crispy leaf edges usually indicate low humidity, underwatering or too much direct sunlight. Yellow leaves can be caused by overwatering or poor drainage, while leaf drop may occur after sudden changes in temperature, humidity or watering. Keep conditions warm and stable, provide good humidity and avoid letting the plant sit in wet soil.
Pet and reptile safety
Begonia Amphioxus should be treated as not pet safe. Begonias contain calcium oxalates, which can cause irritation if eaten. It is not recommended for reptiles that may nibble on the foliage, so choose a confirmed reptile-safe plant for enclosures where animals have direct access to the plants.
