Appearance and growth habit
Neoregelia Bromeliads are compact, colourful bromeliads that form a neat rosette of sturdy leaves. Their bold foliage makes them a great choice for terrariums, plant displays and tropical-style setups. At 7cm, they are small enough to squeeze into your collection without demanding their own postcode.
Care requirements
Give your Neoregelia bright, indirect light and good airflow. Keep the central cup filled with clean water, refreshing it regularly, while allowing the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings. They enjoy warmth and moderate to high humidity, making them particularly well suited to humid indoor spaces and suitable terrarium environments.
Troubleshooting
Brown or crispy leaf tips usually indicate dry conditions, poor water quality or too much direct sun. Soft, mushy leaves can be a sign of overwatering or stagnant water around the roots. If the plant starts looking pale or stretched, move it somewhere brighter. Good airflow is your friend; Neoregelias prefer tropical conditions, not a swamp.
Pet and reptile safety
Neoregelia Bromeliads are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs and are suitable for reptile enclosures when used as decorative habitat plants. They are particularly popular in tropical and arboreal reptile setups. As with any plant, they are intended to enhance the enclosure rather than serve as a food source, and individual animals should not be encouraged to chew on them.
