Calathea ‘Beauty Star’

Updated: Aug 23, 2025

I have to say, Calathea ‘Beauty Star’ is one of those plants that instantly makes you go “wow.” Its leaves are bold, glossy, and patterned like they were painted by an artist — deep green with silvery-white streaks on top, and a dramatic purple underside that gives it a touch of mystery.

Why I love it:

Eye-catching foliage: Every leaf looks like a work of art. Perfect for that corner or shelf where you want a pop of color.

Pet- and small reptile-friendly: Totally non-toxic for cats, dogs, and small reptiles like geckos or chameleons. (Heads up: large herbivorous reptiles, like iguanas or bearded dragons, may nibble on the leaves. They won’t be poisoned, but the delicate foliage might not survive.)

Perfect for humid spaces: It loves humidity, making it a natural fit for larger terrariums or bathrooms with indirect light.

Care Tips from My Experience:

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much sun and those beautiful patterns fade; too little and growth slows.

Water: Keep the soil slightly moist — it likes regular drinks but hates sitting in soggy soil.

Humidity: High humidity keeps it happy. Misting occasionally or pairing with other tropical plants works wonders.

Temperature & Fertiliser: Warm indoor temps around 18–28°C are perfect. A diluted balanced liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer helps it thrive.

If you’re looking for a plant that combines elegance with a bit of drama, ‘Beauty Star’ is a winner. Yes, it asks for a little attention, but its striking leaves, safe-for-pets status, and tropical charm make it totally worth it. From my point of view, it’s a must-have for anyone wanting a statement plant in their indoor jungle.
