These Tuft Acorus 'Golden Edge' are such a great addition to your terrarium or enclosure setup, especially if you're looking for something that works as ground cover without being fussy.
We use them all the time as a lush base layer. You can break them apart to spread them out, or just plant them as-is. You can even wedge little clumps into rock gaps or snug corners, they’ll do their thing either way.
And yes, these guys are reptile-safe and low maintenance
Here are a few quick care tips:
Water
They love staying moist. You don’t want them sitting in soggy swamp water, but you also don’t want to let them dry out completely. In an enclosure or terrarium, misting regularly or a light water trickle works perfectly. If you’re keeping them in a pot or moss ball, just keep the soil/moss damp to the touch.
Light
They’re super chill with light.
Indoors: bright, indirect light is ideal
Outdoors: they can handle full sun if you’re keeping them moist
Enclosures: dappled light or grow lights work well
Growth Habit
They grow low and tufted (like mini grassy fountains). The leaves are green with creamy golden edges — great for adding texture and color contrast. You can easily split them up if they get too bushy.
Maintenance
Trim any brown tips to keep it neat
You can divide them if they start to outgrow their spot
That’s it — honestly, they’re super low-fuss
🐾 Pet-safe?
Yep! 100% non-toxic, which makes them awesome for reptile enclosures, frog tanks, and even if your cat gets nosy.
Need a lush, easy-care filler? These guys have you covered.
Stick them in, give them a mist now and then, and they’ll make your setup look next-level
