Plant Look & Feel

Anthurium bakerii is understated elegance. Long, narrow, strap-like leaves cascade outward from a central rosette, creating a soft, fountain-like form. The foliage is leathery, deep green, and gently glossy, giving the plant a relaxed, tropical presence rather than a bold, dramatic one. It feels calm, grounding, and timeless — a beautiful choice for those who love foliage that whispers instead of shouts.

Care Guide

Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate medium light but will grow more slowly. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Water:
Water when the top few centimetres of soil have dried. Anthurium bakerii prefers lightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering. Always allow excess water to drain away.

Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity but is more forgiving than many other Anthuriums. Average household humidity is usually sufficient, though it thrives even more with added humidity.

Temperature:
Prefers warm, stable temperatures between 18–28°C. Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Soil:
A well-draining, airy aroid mix works best — bark, perlite, and coco peat or peat moss allow roots to breathe and prevent rot.

Pet & Reptile Safety

Not pet safe
Anthurium bakerii is toxic to cats, dogs, and reptiles if ingested. Like other Anthuriums, it contains calcium oxalate crystals. Keep out of reach of pets and reptile enclosures.

Quick Care Tips

  • Let soil dry slightly between waterings

  • Avoid letting water sit in the leaf crown

  • Wipe leaves occasionally to keep them dust-free

  • Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertiliser

Troubleshooting

Yellowing leaves:
Often caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Check soil moisture and root health.

Brown tips or edges:
Can indicate low humidity, inconsistent watering, or salt buildup from fertiliser. Flush soil occasionally and maintain steady care.

Slow growth:
Usually linked to low light or cooler temperatures. Move to a brighter, warmer spot.

Wilting or limp leaves:
May be underwatering or sudden environmental stress. Check moisture levels and recent changes.
