Hedera Helix Variegated Ivy is a classic trailing and climbing plant with elegant green leaves edged or streaked in creamy white. Its fast-growing vines can spill beautifully from hanging baskets, shelves, or climb up supports if you let it get ambitious. Care requirements
Variegated Ivy prefers bright indirect light to maintain its strong colouring, though it can tolerate medium light conditions. Keep the soil lightly moist but well-draining, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. It appreciates cooler to moderate temperatures and good airflow. Regular trimming helps keep it full, tidy, and less “I now own your bookshelf.”
 
Troubleshooting
If the variegation fades, the plant likely needs more light. Yellowing leaves are often a sign of overwatering or poor drainage, while dry, crispy edges can indicate underwatering or low humidity. If growth becomes sparse, it may need more consistent feeding or brighter light. Ivy is resilient, but it will let you know when its basic needs are being ignored.
 
Pet and reptile safety
Hedera Helix Ivy Variegated is toxic to cats, dogs, and reptiles if ingested. It contains compounds that can cause drooling, vomiting, abdominal pain, and digestive upset. It is not considered safe for tortoises, bearded dragons, geckos, or other curious pets that may chew on plants. Best kept out of reach so it stays decorative rather than a risky snack experiment.
