Appearance and growth habit

Pilea ‘Moon Valley’ is a compact, easy-care foliage plant known for its deeply textured, quilted leaves in shades of green and bronze. The raised veins give each leaf a fascinating crinkled appearance, while its compact growth makes it perfect for shelves, plant stands, terrariums or smaller indoor spaces. Supplied in a 9cm pot, it is a great size for adding to your collection without needing to clear out half the room.

Care requirements

Give Pilea ‘Moon Valley’ bright, indirect light and keep it warm, ideally around 18–27°C. Water when the top layer of the growing medium begins to dry, using a loose, well-draining mix. It enjoys moderate humidity but generally adapts well to normal indoor conditions. Feed lightly during active growth to encourage healthy, compact foliage.

Troubleshooting

Brown or crispy leaf edges can indicate underwatering, low humidity or too much direct sunlight. Yellowing leaves are often caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Leggy growth usually means the plant needs brighter indirect light. Keep watering consistent, provide good airflow and avoid leaving the soil constantly wet.

Pet and reptile safety

Pilea ‘Moon Valley’ is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safer choice for pet-friendly homes. It is also generally considered safe for reptiles, making it a useful option for planted reptile or bioactive enclosures. As with any plant used around animals, make sure it has not been treated with pesticides or other chemicals that could be harmful if eaten.
