The Calathea ‘White Fusion’ is one of the most visually striking prayer plants, prized for its marbled foliage that blends creamy white, pale green, and deep emerald tones with soft lavender undersides. Each leaf appears uniquely painted, with no two patterns ever identical.

The leaves are thin, elegant, and slightly rippled along the edges, giving the plant a delicate, almost ethereal movement as it responds to light and time of day. At night, the foliage subtly folds upward, a natural rhythm known as “prayer movement.”

  • Leaves: Marbled white, green, and mint with purple undersides

  • Growth Habit: Compact, clumping tropical foliage plant

  • Texture & Feel: Soft, thin, slightly velvety leaves with delicate structure

  • Size: Typically 30–60 cm indoors

It feels like living watercolor—soft, expressive, and constantly shifting.

Indoor or Outdoor?

  • 🌿 Indoor: Best suited for indoor tropical plant environments

  • 🌤️ Outdoor: Only in warm, humid, frost-free climates under deep shade

🚫 Highly sensitive to cold, wind, and direct sunlight.

Full Care Guide

🌞 Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright, indirect light

  • Gentle light enhances variegation and keeps patterns crisp

  • ❌ Avoid direct sun, which will scorch delicate leaves

💡 Too little light may reduce white variegation and cause dull colouring.

💧 Watering

  • Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy

  • Do not allow soil to dry out completely

🕰️ Typically every 4–7 days, depending on environment

⚖️ Very sensitive to both drought and overwatering.

🌱 Soil Requirements

  • Requires a light, airy, moisture-retentive mix

  • Ideal blend:

    • Peat or coco coir

    • Perlite

    • Fine orchid bark

    • Small amount of compost

🌱 Needs balance: moisture retention with excellent drainage.

Best Growth Habitat

  • 🌡️ Temperature: 18–26°C

  • 💧 Humidity: High humidity preferred (60–90% ideal)

  • 🌬️ Airflow: Gentle airflow prevents fungal issues

🌿 Thrives in:

  • Humid indoor plant displays

  • Bathrooms with filtered natural light

  • Grouped plant environments (humidity boosting effect)

  • Terrarium or cabinet-style setups

Maintenance & Care

✂️ Leaf Care

  • Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base

  • Avoid over-handling fragile foliage

🌿 Feeding

  • Feed every 4–6 weeks during active growth

  • Use a very diluted, balanced fertiliser

  • Reduce feeding in winter

🪴 Growth Tip

  • Stable humidity is more important than frequent fertilising

Pet & Reptile Safety

  • Calathea ‘White Fusion’ is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and reptiles

  • One of the safest ornamental indoor plants

🌿 Excellent choice for pet-friendly plant homes.

Common Problems & Gentle Fixes

  • Crispy leaf edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering

  • Fading variegation: Too little light

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage

  • Curling leaves: Dry air or temperature stress

💡 This plant responds best to consistency and gentle environmental control.
