Appearance and growth habit
Anthurium radicans is a compact, low-growing Anthurium prized for its richly textured, dark green leaves with a distinctive corrugated appearance. It stays relatively compact and develops a creeping growth habit, making it an excellent choice for collectors, terrariums and humid plant setups. Small plant, big leaf personality.
Care requirements
Give it bright, indirect light and keep it warm with moderate to high humidity. Water when the growing medium has started to dry slightly, but avoid keeping the roots constantly soggy. An airy, well-draining aroid mix is ideal, and good airflow will help keep the foliage healthy.
Troubleshooting
Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering or poor drainage, while crispy edges may occur when humidity is too low or watering is inconsistent. Pale or stretched growth usually means it needs brighter indirect light. Check regularly for common pests such as thrips, mealybugs and spider mites.
Pet and reptile safety
Anthurium radicans is toxic if chewed or ingested by cats and dogs because it contains insoluble calcium oxalates, which can cause irritation. Keep it away from pets that like to nibble plants. It can be used as a decorative plant in suitable reptile enclosures when grown without pesticides or other harmful treatments, but it should be considered habitat décor rather than a food source.
