Appearance and growth habit

Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Mint’ is a striking climbing aroid with fresh mint-green foliage and a naturally vigorous growth habit. As it matures, the leaves can become larger and develop attractive splits when given something to climb. It is an excellent choice for plant collectors wanting something a little more unusual without being outrageously demanding.

Care requirements

Give it bright, indirect light for the best colour and growth, although it can tolerate slightly lower light. Water when the top layer of the growing medium has started to dry, and use a well-draining, airy mix. Warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity will keep it happiest, especially while it is actively growing. A moss pole, plank or trellis will encourage larger, more mature foliage.

Troubleshooting

Yellow leaves are usually a sign of staying too wet for too long, while crispy edges can indicate inconsistent watering, very dry conditions or too much direct sun. Slow growth and smaller leaves often mean it needs brighter light or climbing support. Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealybugs, scale and spider mites, particularly when conditions are warm and dry.

Pet and reptile safety

Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Mint’ is considered toxic if chewed or ingested by cats and dogs, as it contains insoluble calcium oxalates that can cause irritation. It is best kept away from pets that like to sample the greenery. For reptile enclosures, it is generally considered suitable as a decorative climbing plant when correctly identified and grown without pesticides or other harmful treatments. It should be treated as habitat décor, not as a food source.
