Appearance and growth habit
Ficus Maclellandii is a distinctive tropical ficus with long, narrow, glossy green leaves that give it a softer, more elegant look than many traditional ficus varieties. It grows upright and can become a sizeable indoor plant over time, making it ideal for adding height and lush greenery to a tropical plant collection or large display.
 
Care requirements
Provide bright, indirect light and keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. It enjoys warm temperatures and moderate humidity but generally adapts well to typical indoor conditions. Avoid sudden changes in light, temperature or watering, as this ficus can be a little dramatic when moved around too much.
 
Troubleshooting
Leaf drop is common when a Ficus Maclellandii experiences a sudden change in environment, inconsistent watering or insufficient light. Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering, while dry, crispy leaves may point to underwatering or very dry air. Give it stable conditions, good drainage and plenty of bright filtered light, and it should settle in nicely.
 
Pet and reptile safety
Ficus Maclellandii is considered toxic to cats and dogs if ingested due to the irritating sap produced by ficus plants. It is therefore not a pet-safe choice for animals that may chew on foliage. It is also not recommended as a reptile-safe plant for enclosures where reptiles can freely nibble the plant.
