Appearance and growth habit

Boston Tiger Fern Variegated is a bold twist on the classic Boston fern, featuring arching fronds with striking variegation that adds contrast and texture to any indoor plant collection. Its feathery foliage grows in a soft, cascading form, making it ideal for hanging baskets or elevated plant stands where it can show off properly. The variegated pattern gives it a slightly wilder, more “designer jungle” look than your standard fern, without losing its lush, full appearance.

Care requirements

This fern prefers bright indirect light and consistently moist, well-draining soil. It thrives in warm, humid environments and will appreciate extra humidity in dry indoor spaces. Water regularly to keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid waterlogging or letting it dry out completely. A stable environment is key — it’s not a fan of sudden temperature changes or dry air conditioning battles.

Troubleshooting

Brown frond tips are usually caused by low humidity, underwatering, or dry air. If the plant looks dull or growth slows, it may need more consistent moisture or slightly brighter indirect light. Yellowing fronds often indicate overwatering or poor drainage. Regularly trimming old or damaged fronds encourages fresh, healthy growth and keeps the plant looking full rather than tired.

Pet and reptile safety

Boston Tiger Fern Variegated is considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and most common household pets. It is also generally regarded as safe around reptiles such as geckos, bearded dragons, and tortoises if lightly nibbled. While it won’t cause poisoning, excessive chewing may still lead to mild digestive upset, so it’s best enjoyed as décor rather than a snack.
