Coco Chips (or Coco Chunks) are small, chunky pieces of coconut husk fiber. They’re coarser and more rigid than fine coco coir, making them perfect for improving soil aeration and drainage.

Uses for Plants:

Coco chips are often mixed into potting soils to increase airflow around roots and prevent soil compaction. They help create a well-draining environment, especially for plants that dislike soggy roots, encouraging strong, healthy root systems.

Uses for Orchids:

Coco chips are a popular medium for orchids, mimicking the natural bark environment many orchids grow in. They provide excellent aeration and moisture retention, allowing orchid roots to breathe while holding enough moisture to keep them hydrated. Because coco chips break down more slowly than bark, orchid pots stay stable longer and require less frequent repotting.

Uses for Terrariums:

In terrariums and vivariums, coco chips are used as a substrate layer or mixed with other materials to create naturalistic, breathable bedding. Their chunky texture allows for good drainage and airflow, helping prevent waterlogging and mold. Coco chips are great in setups for reptiles, amphibians, and plants that thrive in humid but well-aerated environments.
