Appearance and growth habit

Fittonia albivenis 'Pink Anne', commonly known as the Pink Nerve Plant, is a compact trailing houseplant loved for its deep green leaves decorated with striking pink veins. Unlike smoother Fittonia varieties, 'Pink Anne' has gently ruffled leaf edges that add extra texture and character. It stays low and bushy, making it an excellent choice for terrariums, shelves, desktops, hanging planters, or as a colourful ground cover in mixed indoor planters.

Care requirements

'Pink Anne' enjoys bright, indirect light and consistently moist, well-draining soil. It appreciates higher humidity, making it perfectly suited to terrariums, bathrooms, or kitchens. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves, and don't let the soil dry out completely unless you enjoy dramatic performances—this plant wilts quickly but usually bounces back after a good drink if caught in time.

Troubleshooting

Drooping leaves almost always mean it's thirsty, while yellowing leaves usually point to overwatering or poor drainage. Crispy edges are a sign the air is too dry, so increasing humidity will keep the foliage looking its best. Keep an eye out for spider mites and mealybugs, particularly if humidity is low, although healthy plants are generally trouble-free.

Pet and reptile safety

Fittonia albivenis 'Pink Anne' is considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses, making it a great choice for pet-friendly homes. It is also widely regarded as safe for reptile enclosures, including bioactive setups for geckos, snakes, chameleons, and many other reptile species, where it provides attractive ground cover and shelter. While safe, it is intended as a decorative plant rather than a food source, so always research your specific reptile's dietary requirements before allowing any plant material to be consumed.
