Appearance and growth habit

Begonia ‘Berry Cherry’ is a colourful foliage Begonia with attractive patterned leaves in shades of green, pink, red and burgundy, depending on the plant and growing conditions. It has a compact, bushy growth habit and makes a great choice for indoor plant collections, humid displays and terrariums. Basically, it brings plenty of colour without demanding half the room.

Care requirements

Give Begonia ‘Berry Cherry’ bright, indirect light to maintain good colour and healthy growth. Keep the growing medium lightly moist, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. It enjoys warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity, along with a loose, well-draining mix. Avoid harsh direct sunlight and constantly wet soil, as both can cause problems.

Troubleshooting

Crispy brown edges usually indicate low humidity, underwatering or too much direct sunlight, while yellowing leaves and soft growth can be signs of overwatering. Good airflow is important in humid conditions to help prevent fungal issues. If the plant becomes stretched or loses some of its colour, try moving it to a brighter position with filtered light.

Pet and reptile safety

Begonia ‘Berry Cherry’ is not considered pet-safe. Begonias contain calcium oxalates and can cause irritation if eaten. Keep it away from cats and dogs that like to sample the houseplants, and it is not recommended as a plant for reptile or amphibian enclosures where the animal may chew or consume the foliage.
