Appearance and growth habit

Begonia Chlorosticta is a striking foliage Begonia known for its deep green leaves, often marked with contrasting silver-green spotting and attractive reddish tones underneath. It grows as a compact, bushy plant and makes a fantastic statement in a bright indoor plant collection or humid display. Expect moderate growth when conditions are right — this one likes to look fancy without demanding centre stage.

Care requirements

Give Begonia Chlorosticta bright, indirect light and keep it warm, ideally around 18–28°C. It enjoys higher humidity, making it well suited to a humid indoor environment or carefully managed terrarium. Water when the top layer of the growing medium has started to dry, but avoid keeping the roots constantly soggy. Use a well-draining, airy mix and feed lightly during active growth.

Troubleshooting

Brown, crispy leaf edges usually mean the air is too dry, the plant is drying out too much, or it is exposed to harsh direct sunlight. Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering or poor drainage. Curling or damaged new growth may also point to inconsistent moisture or pests such as thrips and spider mites. Keep conditions stable and check the leaves regularly — Begonias appreciate consistency and are not particularly impressed by dramatic changes.

Pet and reptile safety

Begonia Chlorosticta should be treated as not pet safe and is not recommended for reptiles that may nibble on their plants. Begonias contain calcium oxalates, which can cause irritation if eaten. Keep this plant away from cats, dogs and reptiles that are likely to chew on foliage, and choose a confirmed reptile-safe plant for habitats where animals may have direct access.
