Appearance and growth habit
Begonia Rex ‘Maori Haze’ is a striking foliage Begonia with large, textured leaves featuring swirling shades of silver, green, burgundy and deep purple. Its bold patterns and slightly metallic appearance make it a standout in any indoor plant collection. It grows in a compact, bushy form and is perfect for adding plenty of colour without needing a huge amount of space.
Care requirements
Give Begonia Rex ‘Maori Haze’ bright, indirect light and keep it warm, ideally around 18–28°C. It enjoys moderate to high humidity and should be watered when the top layer of the growing medium starts to dry. Use an airy, well-draining mix and avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. Feed lightly during active growth to encourage healthy, colourful foliage.
Troubleshooting
Brown or crispy leaf edges usually indicate low humidity, underwatering or too much direct sunlight. Yellowing leaves can be caused by overwatering or poor drainage, while sudden leaf drop may occur after changes in temperature, humidity or watering. Provide good airflow, keep conditions consistent and avoid constantly fussing with it — Begonia Rex prefers stability.
Pet and reptile safety
Begonia Rex ‘Maori Haze’ should be treated as not pet safe. Begonias contain calcium oxalates, which can cause irritation if eaten. It is not recommended for reptiles that may nibble on the foliage, so choose a confirmed reptile-safe plant for enclosures where animals have direct access to plants.
