Appearance and growth habit

Philodendron Prince of Orange is a compact, colourful Philodendron famous for its changing foliage. New leaves emerge bright orange, gradually shifting through copper and yellow-green before maturing to a rich green. It grows upright rather than climbing, making it an easy choice for adding a splash of colour without needing a moss pole or trellis.

Care requirements

Give it bright, indirect light to maintain strong colour and healthy growth. Water when the top few centimetres of the soil have dried, and use a loose, well-draining potting mix. It enjoys warmth and moderate to high humidity, with temperatures around 18–28°C ideal. Feed regularly during active growth for larger, healthier leaves.

Troubleshooting

Yellow leaves are usually a sign of overwatering or poor drainage, while brown edges can indicate dry conditions, low humidity or too much direct sunlight. Pale or smaller new leaves may mean the plant needs more light or feeding. Keep conditions consistent and avoid letting the soil stay soggy — Prince of Orange likes attention, not a daily bath.

Pet and reptile safety

Philodendron Prince of Orange is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten because it contains insoluble calcium oxalates, which can cause mouth irritation, drooling and difficulty swallowing. It is not recommended for reptiles that may nibble on their plants. For reptile enclosures, choose a confirmed reptile-safe species instead.
