Appearance and growth habit
Syngonium erythrophyllum ‘Llano Carti Road’ is a beautiful, sought-after Syngonium with velvety, arrow-shaped leaves in rich green tones, often showing attractive reddish to burgundy colouring on the undersides. It starts with a more compact growth habit but will happily trail or climb as it matures. Give it something to climb and it will reward you with larger, more impressive foliage.
Care requirements
Give Syngonium ‘Llano Carti Road’ bright, indirect light and keep it warm, ideally around 18–28°C. Water when the top few centimetres of the growing medium have started to dry and use a loose, well-draining aroid mix. It enjoys moderate to high humidity and benefits from a moss pole, plank or other climbing support. Feed during active growth to encourage healthy, vigorous foliage.
Troubleshooting
Brown or crispy leaf edges can indicate low humidity, underwatering or too much direct sunlight. Yellow leaves are often caused by overwatering or poor drainage, while small leaves and slow growth may mean the plant needs more light, warmth or support. Keep moisture consistent and avoid letting the roots sit in soggy soil — Syngoniums like humidity, but they still need to breathe.
Pet and reptile safety
Syngonium erythrophyllum is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten because it contains insoluble calcium oxalates, which can cause mouth irritation, drooling and difficulty swallowing. It is not recommended for reptiles that may nibble on the foliage. For reptile enclosures, choose a confirmed reptile-safe plant instead.
