Appearance and growth habit
Tradescantia albiflora ‘Nanouk’ is a colourful, fast-growing trailing plant with pointed leaves striped in shades of green, cream, pink and purple. Its trailing stems make it ideal for hanging baskets, shelves or as a vibrant addition to an indoor plant collection. It grows quickly when happy, so a little regular trimming keeps it looking full rather than wild.
Care requirements
Give Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’ bright, indirect light to maintain its strong colouring and compact growth. Water when the top layer of soil has dried slightly and use a well-draining potting mix. It enjoys warmth and moderate humidity but is generally easy-going. Too little light can cause stretched growth and less colourful leaves.
Troubleshooting
Brown or crispy leaves can indicate dry conditions, too much direct sun or inconsistent watering. Pale colouring and long, bare stems usually mean the plant needs more light. Overwatering can cause yellow leaves and root problems, so let the soil dry slightly between waterings. Regularly pinching back the stems encourages a bushier plant.
Pet and reptile safety
Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’ is considered toxic to dogs and cats if ingested and may cause mouth or digestive irritation. It is therefore best kept away from pets that like to nibble plants. It is also not recommended as a reptile-safe plant where chewing or ingestion may occur, so choose a confirmed reptile-safe species for enclosures.
