Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ is all about contrast and detail. The leaves are a pale, silvery green with deep, dark veins that create a bold, almost scale-like pattern across the surface. The texture is slightly raised, giving each leaf that sculpted, dragon-skin effect.
It stays fairly compact, making it perfect for smaller spaces, but still delivers big visual impact. Even at plug size, the distinctive colouring and patterning are already visible, becoming more pronounced and defined as the plant matures.
It’s clean, striking, and just a little bit dramatic.
Care
Prefers bright, indirect light. Good lighting keeps the silver tones vibrant and the growth steady. Direct sun can burn the leaves, while low light may dull the contrast.
Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry out. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Consistent watering is key, especially at plug stage.
Enjoys higher humidity and will perform best when the air isn’t too dry.
Keep in a warm, stable environment and avoid cold drafts.
Troubleshooting
Yellowing leaves are usually linked to overwatering or poor drainage.
Crispy edges can indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Drooping may happen if the plant is thirsty or adjusting to a new environment.
Leaf loss during acclimation is normal. Alocasias tend to cycle leaves as they grow.
If the silver fades and leaves look more green, it likely needs more light.
Pet & Reptile Safety
Not pet or reptile safe. Like other Alocasias, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and reptiles.
