Appearance and growth habit
Syngonium ‘Grey Ghost’ is a rare-looking arrowhead plant with pale silvery-grey to soft green leaves that shift in tone as they mature. The foliage has a subtle, almost misty appearance that makes it stand out from typical green houseplants without being loud about it. It grows as a trailing or climbing plant, producing long vines that can be left to cascade or trained up a support. It’s understated, modern, and slightly mysterious — like the plant version of “don’t ask, just admire.”
Care requirements
This Syngonium prefers bright indirect light to maintain its pale colouring and healthy growth, though it can tolerate medium light conditions. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry out, ensuring good drainage to prevent root issues. It thrives in warm indoor environments with moderate humidity and adapts well to typical home conditions. A light, well-aerated potting mix will keep it growing steadily without fuss.
Troubleshooting
If leaves become greener and lose their silvery tone, the plant likely needs more light. Yellowing leaves are usually a sign of overwatering, while crispy edges can indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering. If growth becomes leggy, it may be stretching toward a light source and will benefit from repositioning or light pruning. It’s generally easygoing, but it does best with stable, consistent care.
Pet and reptile safety
Syngonium ‘Grey Ghost’ is toxic to cats, dogs, and reptiles if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause mouth irritation, drooling, vomiting, and digestive discomfort. It is not considered safe for tortoises, bearded dragons, geckos, or other pets that may chew foliage. Best kept out of reach so it stays a stylish trailing plant, not a veterinary concern.
