Appearance and growth habit

Anthurium polyschistum is a unique tropical aroid with deeply divided, finger-like leaves that give it a lush, jungle-inspired appearance. Unlike many Anthuriums grown for their broad foliage, this species develops elegant, finely cut leaves that become even more dramatic as the plant matures. Its climbing growth habit makes it an eye-catching choice for collectors looking for something a little different.

Care requirements

Anthurium polyschistum thrives in bright, indirect light, warm temperatures, and moderate to high humidity. Plant it in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix and water when the top few centimetres of the soil begin to dry. Providing a moss pole or other climbing support encourages stronger growth, larger leaves, and a healthier plant overall. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season to keep it growing its best.

Troubleshooting

Yellowing leaves are usually caused by overwatering or poor drainage, while brown, crispy edges often indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering. Slow growth may be the result of insufficient light or cooler temperatures. If the leaves remain small, giving the plant something to climb can make a noticeable difference over time.

Pet and reptile safety

Anthurium polyschistum is toxic to cats, dogs, and reptiles if chewed or eaten, as it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it out of reach of curious pets and avoid using it in reptile enclosures where animals may nibble on the foliage. It is best grown as a decorative houseplant rather than an enclosure plant.
