Appearance and growth habit
Anthurium Scolopendrium Pendulous is an unusual and highly desirable Anthurium known for its long, strap-like leaves that arch and cascade gracefully as the plant matures. The foliage develops a distinctive pendulous habit, creating a dramatic tropical display that looks particularly impressive in hanging positions or elevated pots. Its unique form makes it a standout choice for collectors seeking something beyond the typical broad-leaf Anthurium.
Care requirements
This Anthurium thrives in bright, indirect light and enjoys warm temperatures with moderate to high humidity. Plant it in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix that provides excellent airflow around the roots. Water when the growing medium begins to dry slightly, avoiding prolonged soggy conditions that can lead to root problems.
Troubleshooting
Brown leaf tips are often caused by low humidity, inconsistent watering, or mineral build-up from hard water. Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering or poor drainage. If growth slows or the foliage loses vigour, increasing humidity and ensuring the plant receives adequate indirect light will usually help it recover.
Pet and reptile safety
Anthurium Scolopendrium Pendulous is toxic if chewed or ingested by cats, dogs, and reptiles due to the presence of calcium oxalate crystals. It is not considered pet friendly or reptile safe and should be kept out of reach of animals. While it makes an exceptional collector’s specimen, it is not suitable for bioactive reptile enclosures or habitats where animals may come into contact with the foliage.
